Buomusa or Abumusa

For your information

The original and Iranian name of Abu Musa Island is “Buomusa”, which was said and written with the intervention of colonial foreigners and in imitation of the Arabic writings “Abu Musa”.

According to a Mehr news agency reporter, the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb have always had and will have an Iranian identity throughout history. One of the ways to preserve the Iranian identity of these islands is to preserve their original and rooted Iranian names, which indicate the permanent Iranian rule over these islands and the influence of the Persian language in this region.

Especially about Buomusa Island, without the need to change the name, it is necessary to write and read the name of this island correctly and according to its Iranian origin, “Buomusa” in Persian writings and correspondence.

The Persian word “Buomusa” consists of two main parts. The first part of this word is “Buom” meaning land. The second part is “Sa” which is in fact the changed form of “su”the same as “Soos” or green. Thus, the combination of “Buom” and “Soos” is the original and Iranian name of this island, which means “Green Buom” or “Green Land”.

In confirmation of this point, other Persian names of this island can also be mentioned, which include both “Buom” and “Soos”. This island, which is one of the most pleasant areas of the Persian Gulf and has a variety of marine plants and animals on its coast and has long had fresh water, good farmland and pastures, was known to the people of Bushehr, Bandar Lengeh and other cities of Persia as “Gap Sabzo” meaning large green field until 80 years ago, or in historical documents it is mentioned as “Buomouw”, which is composed of two parts “Buom” and “Ouw” or water and has been Arabicized as “Bumof”.

Therefore, it is appropriate to write and read the name of this island correctly in Persian writings, considering its Iranian origin, as “Buomusu”.

FYI, Tunb is a Persian word
