Bumusa Superadobe Workshop; A Symbol of Unity and Sustainability
The Bumusa Superadobe Workshop was initially launched with the primary goal of assisting the decent people of the island. In this effort, with the dedication of our team and esteemed participants, we built a two-dome Superadobe structure. From the very beginning, this project was named ‘Iran-Banu’ as a symbol of the Iran’s integrity and support for the local community.
Planning and process
The mentioned workshop was held in February/March 2025 for 15 days and came with numerous challenges. The main issue was an intense cold weather that affected the entire country and eventually reached Bumusa Island, bringing stormy winds throughout the team’s stay. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, the dedicated participants of the Superadobe workshop persevered and successfully completed the structure.
Provided Trainings
This workshop was more comprehensive than the introductory course. In addition to learning the usual Superadobe construction techniques—such as trench excavation, center and height compass, spring line, buttress walls, door and window installation, and dome closure—participants also became familiar with techniques for Superadobe deconstruction, plastering, and two domes connection. As a result, the Bumusa Superadobe Workshop became one of the most unique workshops ever held by EarthArtists group.
Hospitality of Bumusa’s People
During the two weeks spent on Bumusa Island, the hospitality and kindness of the local people encouraged all participants and trainers. The cooperation of the respected authorities and the support of the community created conditions where even the harsh and stormy weather could not hinder the project’s completion.
The Dedication of the Iran-Banu Structure to Bumusa's Community
It is an honor that, at the end of this journey, the Iran-Banu structure was presented to the municipality and the honorable people of Bumusa in the presence of the esteemed governor of Bumusa. This structure is a symbol of collaboration, collective effort, and sustainability in architecture, and it is hoped that it will be used for many years to serve the local community’s interests.
The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without the companionship and support of those who stood by the Earthartists team along the way.
